3rd grade to 5th grade The main focus of our Children’s ministry here at Calvary Chapel Apple Valley is to be a “hands on” ministry. In Matthew we read that Jesus Himself laid His “hands on them and prayed.” Our desire is to teach our children the principles of walking as a child of God. We realize that each child is a gift from God both valuable and precious and able to learn and grow in the things of God. “Then little children were brought to Him, that He should put His “hands on” them and pray. And the disciples rebuked them. (14) But Jesus said, Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of Heaven. (15) And He laid His “hands on” them, and departed from there."
Matthew 19:13-15 There are couple more things we can see in this passage of scripture. We see that the people wanted to bring their children to Jesus but were forbidden by the apostles. In the rebuke of Jesus to His apostles we see that Jesus acknowledges that the children have a vital role in the family of God. Children are a fundamental part of the life of the church and should not be viewed as ‘in the way’ of ministry.
Children are tools in the Masters’ hands, not only to be taught but to help in the teaching of the body of Christ. Earlier in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus uses the children as examples of our need to be humble like children and in trusting the authority of parents, and so should our trust be in God. With Jesus as our example, we wish to bless and pray for your children. We seek to help in teaching them the goodness of God at their level of understanding. Teaching at there level is also a characteristic that we learn from Jesus. “ And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. “
Philippians 2:8 Can you imagine if God blasted us all up to heaven to try and teach us the fullness of Himself? We would all explode just at the sight of Him. Instead He humbled Himself to come down to earth and teach us at our level of understanding. Can you see in your minds eye what a baby sees when an adult walks up to them? They must look so ominous and intimidating. When we get down on the ground to their level they then become comfortable and even reach out to touch us. Your children will be taught in such a way that will cause them to reach out to the One that gave them life, JESUS CHRIST. This blessing has a domino effect – the child is blessed, then we are blessed, you are blessed and so on. Our children's ministry, provides Bible based, age appropriate classes and care for your children during Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services.
